17 inch LCD Computer Monitors

About LCD Monitors

LCD, which stand for liquid crystal display, was originally only available in laptops and notebooks. The technology is now widely available in desktop monitors. Before the release of lcd flat screen monitors for home desktop computers, CRT monitors were widely used. Some advantages that LCD has over CRT are:

  • Less power usage
  • Better display and flicker free
  • Less space and a larger viewing area, especially with 17" flat screen moitors and above.

The most important thing to know about an lcd monitor is that lcd panels have a fixed resolution.  This means that you must configure your desktop to that same resolution, otherwise your picture will be blurred or the image will be distorted to fit the desktop resolution.

Because of the above fact, you should choose a 17 inch flat screen monitor that best fits your resolution needs.  Choose a higher resolution if you want to be able to fit more items on the screen.  The trade off is that icons and words will be much smaller and more difficult to read.  If you play many games, you may be required to purchase a monitor that is inline with the resolution of the game(s) that you are playing.

Overall, an lcd monitor is  a good choice and a great step up in quality from old style CRT monitors.  The price of lcd flat screen monitors is falling from year to year, so the choice should be clear that it is time to upgrade to a 17" flat screen monitor soon!
